Russell Bernstein Wins the Young Professional Network (YPN) Rising Star Award Awarded annually by the New Orleans Metropolitan Association of REALTORS® to an individual 40 years old or younger who has displayed exemplary skills in sales, leadership qualities, and is active in the community

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA June 8, 2019-- Russell Bernstein, full-time business broker and registered commercial real estate agent with the Commercial Division of the Keller Williams office in Metairie (Keller Williams Commercial 889-9898), was recently granted the Rising Star Award, presented to him at the 2019 Annual Commercial Investment Division (CID) Awards Gala, hosted by the Commercial Investment Division (CID) of the New Orleans Metropolitan Association of REALTORS®, Inc. (NOMAR) at the Hyatt Regency on June 6th.

According to the YPN Rising Star Award Nomination Form located on the CID website, the award was to be awarded to “a REALTOR® member of CID, 40 years of age or younger, who has served the Board, our members and the community, and has enhanced the commercial REALTOR® image”.

Bernstein, 39, has been a REALTOR® member of CID for 2 years. Besides meeting both the membership and age requirement, Bernstein surpasses the expected qualifications to be met by a Rising Star. He is currently running a global business broker internship program with more than 20 interns from more than 20 universities and more than 5 master’s programs (25% attending university in New Orleans). The interns currently live in 3 different countries and on 3 different continents, with more than half being native speakers of one of 7 different languages. “It’s great to work with Russell because of how he’s always willing to get people involved and teach them regardless of experience or background. I really appreciate that,” said Shayaan Dar, a Valuation intern for Bernstein, “Even with such a large team, Russell always stays on track and effectively manages everyone to make sure we are enjoying our time and doing work properly.”

The level of professionalism demanded and displayed by Bernstein permeates into the expectations he holds for his interns and their work ethic. More than 30% of the interns are also enrolled in courses required for getting a real estate license in their state of residence. Their learning experience and understanding is further developed by Bernstein’s manner of leading them. One intern, Bryan Nguyen, who also works in valuations, said of Bernstein and his internship, “I’m always working on tasks essential to his clients and it is great that he is willing to make sure we’re treated as professionals as well. It’s nice that I’ve had numerous opportunities to pass down the knowledge and train others. I am grateful that he trusts and has full faith in the abilities of his team members.” What Bernstein’s interns learn from him does not only develop them professionally in their career goals, but also helps them to develop skills that they can use in everyday life. Valuation Intern, Juntao He, said of him “Mr.Bernstein always encourages me to get out of my comfort zone to achieve something greater and not to be afraid to tackle challenging tasks. The most valuable lesson that I have learned from him is to pay close attention to detail.”

Bernstein has served the commercial real estate community as well as the community of the Greater New Orleans Area through the Bernstein Foundation, a private foundation that he shares with his wife, Rachel Bernstein. The Bernstein Foundation fulfills the philanthropic goals of the Bernsteins, distributing funds to charitable efforts and foundations such as Son of a Saint.

Bernstein has founded 8 non-profit organizations, and he has been active in the global community supporting causes of professional organizations, amateur sports, human rights, and education. Locally, he formed a New Orleans non-profit association for pedicabbers “including a 501c3 (for charitable activities directed at impacting the local community), 501c4 (for the independent and cohesive voice of the pedicabber industry), 501c6 (for inclusiveness of other professionals impacting or impacted by the pedicab industry), and a 501c12 (for health and insurance-related goals of pedicabbers)”.

Bernstein further “enhances” the commercial REALTOR® image through his multiple certifications. Bernstein is one of only 500 people in the USA with a Certified Business Intermediary (CBI) designation, and he is also a Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS), a rare combination that advances the expectations of a commercial REALTOR® both globally and locally among the diverse communities of New Orleans. While presenting Bernstein with his award, Michael Allain of KW Commercial stated “In his approach to becoming a Commercial Real Estate professional at KW Commercial, rather than take the more followed path, he decided to find a true niche in a profession where that is becoming harder and harder to do. As hard as I tried to talk him out of it, he applied his considerable intelligence and work ethic to becoming a Certified Business Intermediary”. Bernstein also has an MBA in Financial Decision Systems from Loyola Marymount University and over 10 years of experience working in entrepreneurial and administrative support roles including Fortune 500 companies.

About Bryan Nguyen, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill

Bryan Nguyen is a Valuation Intern at KW Commercial 889-9898 with Russell Bernstein, CBI. He is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Investment Banking and Multinational Finance at the University of North Carolina, and plans to utilize this knowledge by pursuing a career in Investment Banking. He has consistently worked part-time alongside his coursework while also taking leadership roles in several student organizations. Bryan has gained experience from working a summer as a financial planning intern. Bryan further expanded his valuation and accounting understanding by participating in his University's Investment Banking Boot Camp. He secured a position on UNC's Investment Banking Resume Book. Bryan received a scholarship to attend UNC's Investment Banking Trek and met with 12 investment banks. Shayaan Dar is a Valuation Intern for KW Commercial 889-9898 with Russell Bernstein, CBI. He is a sophomore at the University of Michigan majoring in Economics and minoring in Computer Science. He became passionate about business after working many years at a small business owned by his family, inspiring him to pursue a career in Finance. A corporate finance course prompted his desire to study the valuations of small businesses.

About Juntao He, Fordham University

Juntao He is a Valuation Intern for KW Commercial 889-9898 with Russell Bernstein, CBI. She double majored in Finance and Mathematics at Tulane University. She worked as a video camera operator in the Athletic Department for two years and spent a semester participating in K-12 STEM Outreach as an intern on her campus. She has experience working as a student research assistant in the Finance Department. She is a graduate student at Fordham University. She plans to use the knowledge she gained from her courses on data, models and quantitative skills to solve problems and optimize solutions in her career. She is interested in becoming a data analyst in the future.
