Laurie Chamlee is a Valuation Intern for KW Commercial 889-9898 with Russell Bernstein, CBI. She is pursuing a Business Management degree with an Emphasis in Entrepreneurial Management at Brigham Young University – Idaho and is expected to graduate in December 2020.
Laurie returned to school to earn a bachelor’s degree after raising her 6 children. She has been the full charge bookkeeper for the family appliance business which she and her husband founded in 1981. They sold that business to their eldest son while she continued to work as a bookkeeper. Laurie would like to use her new skills in a part time position, which she could do remotely, in order to help a business grow. She had dreamed of returning to college to finish her degree but found returning to school terrifying as she was filled with doubt. However, with long hours and great effort she has gained confidence and is now on the track to earning her bachelor’s degree.
Laurie is the Crew Chief for a successful off-road race team in which her husband is a builder, designer, and racer. Her responsibilities include preparing team logistics such as sponsorships, team volunteers, food, fuel, and pit stops. Additionally, she helps by chasing the racecourse in order to be available to take parts and help make repairs as needed. The races vary from 250 – 1000 mile throughout Baja, Mexico. Through Laurie’s and her husband’s effort, as well as that of the other team members, the team has won 15 season class championships.
Laurie loves to travel, especially to visit her grandchildren. One of her most remarkable memories was when she did a live-aboard Scuba diving trip to Thailand, where she was able to dive 3-4 times a day among coral reefs and shipwrecks. Another one of Laurie’s hobbies is knitting as she loves creating beautiful clothing. She has made each of her granddaughter their blessing/christening dresses. She also volunteers for the local high school track team as the timing and scoring specialist, evaluating the photo finishes of the running events to determine their time.
