Aki Wakayama is a Marketing Intern at KW Commercial 889-9898 with Russell Bernstein, CBI. He is a rising senior at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. He is a Business and Management major and Psychology minor.
Aki is originally from Tokyo, Japan. Last two summers, he worked as a program assistant for the summer program at Emporia State University in Kansas, where he helped over 40 Japanese study abroad students with their transition to American universities. In addition to mentoring them and giving them advice on cultural transitions, he also motivated them to use English and established an environment where the Japanese students could use and learn English during the program.
At Knox, Aki has been involved in the Asian Student Association, working as a PR, vice president, and co-president for the last three years. With the organization, he has helped to host numerous Asian cultural events that advocated for various Asian cultures. Such events were not only entertainment open to any students who were eager to experience some Asian culture, but were also space where Asian students could feel at home on campus.
Aki’s biggest passion is soccer, he is especially interested in growing the sport in the United States. He has founded Friday Soccer Club at Knox, which focuses on providing enjoyable soccer experience to anyone who is interested, regardless of their skillset. Though this is a very new organization, Aki hopes that it will contribute to the growth of the popularity of soccer in the future.
